5 Ways to Use Bentonite Clay

5 Ways to Use Bentonite Clay

Our best-selling Indian Healing Clay is composed of 100% pure Bentonite clay, which is naturally occurring volcanic ash – pretty cool right? Rich in calcium, magnesium, silica, sodium, copper, iron and potassium, Bentonite Clay has been used throughout history to heal and detoxify the skin. Here are our favorite ways to put it to use:

1. Bentonite Clay + Honey + ACV Mask

Known for its ability to help remove toxins from your pores, heal skin, and reduce blemishes, Bentonite Clay is a fixture in many DIY beauty treatments. This mask is our personal favorite, and it only involves two easy steps! Simply mix equal parts of apple cider vinegar, then add a teaspoon of raw honey. Honey’s antibacterial properties will promote clearer skin, while Apple Cider Vinegar tones and clarifies skin. Once your mask is well mixed (remember not to use a metal utensil – it will lessen the clay’s detoxifying properties), apply it to the skin for ten minutes before rinsing off with a warm damp cloth. This will detoxify, clarify, and exfoliate your skin. When used weekly, you’ll notice clearer, brighter skin.

2. As a Detox Shampoo

Do you feel like your hair needs a deep cleaning? Product build-up can accumulate and prevent the moisture and oils from getting into your hair, leaving it dull and dry. This recipe is the perfect cleanse for your scalp and hair. For this shampoo, you will need:

When making this hair treatment, remember not to let it come in contact with any metal, to protect the properties of bentonite clay. To make this shampoo, mix all of the ingredients together in a glass or plastic bowl until it is the consistency of yogurt. Apply it to wet hair and massage it into the roots and all over your hair to cleanse it. Then simply wash it out and enjoy happy, healthy hair.

3. For a Detox Bath

Doesn’t a detox bath just sound refreshing? Well, with the toxins surrounding us in everyday life, this bentonite clay bath will help cleanse your body and draw out the toxins and bacteria that have clung to your skin throughout the day. Draw a hot bath and add a half of a cup of Bentonite Clay to it. Having the bath at a hot temperature will open your pores to let the clay do its magic. Soak for about twenty minutes once a week to purify skin. This is a perfect time to add some essential oils to the bath and amp up the spa vibes. The calming and antibacterial properties of Lavender and Lemon essential oils make them perfect additions to your detox bath.

4. To Make a DIY Toothpaste

This one is helpful if you are trying to get rid of store bought products full of unwanted chemicals. For this DIY, you will need:

In a glass or plastic container, combine bentonite clay, coconut oil, and water with a non-metal utensil until mixed. Add baking soda and essential oils and mix again. This DIY toothpaste is fast and natural, but make sure to keep the clay away from anything metal, or it could react with it and reduce its healing properties.

5. To Soothe Sunburned or Wind Chapped Skin

This is a quick go-to when you want to calm sunburned or wind-chapped skin without using a store-bought cream or topical. Mix equal amounts of bentonite clay and water until it has a paste-like consistency and smooth it over the affected area. Wrap it in gauze after applying to keep the paste from drying and let the clay do its magic!
