Using Epsom Salt for Your Health and Your Beauty

Epsom Salt comes from a saline spring in Surrey, England, and is a compound of the minerals magnesium and sulfate. A natural remedy for many ailments, Epsom Salt boasts a number of health and beauty benefits.

Magnesium and sulfate are easily absorbed into the skin, which makes Epsom Salt an ideal, versatile product. For example, magnesium reduces inflammation, improves muscle and nerve function, and promotes relaxation. Sulfate, in turn, enhances the absorption of nutrients, flushes toxins, and eases migraines.

HEALTH USES

Treats Athlete’s Foot and Toenail Fungus: Soak your feet in a therapeutic Epsom Salt bath. If you have toenail fungus, repeat the process three times a day.

Removes Splinters: Soak the body part with the splinter in an Epsom Salt bath for easy removal.

Heals Sprains and Bruises: Add 2 cups of Epsom Salt to your bathwater and soak to minimize pain and swelling.

Reduces Inflammation: Add 2–3 teaspoons of Epsom Salt to warm water. Soak the inflamed foot or joint for about 30 minutes.

BEAUTY USES

Exfoliates the Skin: Mix Epsom Salt with a small amount of bath or olive oil. While bathing, apply to the skin to enjoy its exfoliating and softening properties. Make sure to rinse thoroughly.

Cleanses the Face: To eliminate toxins, mix a half-teaspoon of Epsom Salt with your standard cleanser. Gently massage the mixture onto your face, and then rinse thoroughly.

Eradicates Blackheads: Boil a half-cup of hot water. Add 1 teaspoon of Epsom Salt and 3 drops of iodine, and mix. Use a cotton ball to apply the mixture to blackheads.

Removes Hairspray: Combine 1 cup of Epsom Salt with 1 gallon of water and 1 cup of lemon juice, and cover the mixture. Let it set for 24 hours before applying to dry hair. Then, leave the mixture on for 20 minutes before shampooing.
